Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are you registered with a professional association?

Yes, Minni Sharma is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), Registered Professional Counsellor with the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association, and a member of The Canadian College of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. Minni is also part of the Canadian Examining Board of Health Care Practitioners.

  • How many sessions will I need and is therapy covered by my benefits/insurance?

It does depend on what issues you have come to therapy for, but generally at about the tenth session you would be well on your way to healing. Therapy is not covered by OHIP. Please check with your benefits/insurance provider if registered psychotherapists or psychological services are covered. Rates can vary depending on the type of therapy. Minni works under supervision of a psychologist, in which case psychological services would be covered by your insurance plan.

  • What is Guiding Journeys' therapy 'style'?

With Guiding Journeys, the mission is for the client to be able to use the tools and techniques learned in therapy sessions, in real life situations. Minni works with her clients to develop a 'tool box' with a solution-focused approach, while taking into account the past patterns and behaviours that need to be healed or altered. Minni also incorporates a holistic approach in her therapy sessions that involves the mind, body and spirit, based on the client's preference. She is also trained in body psychotherapy, energy (chakra) balancing, medical intuition, guided imagery and meditation.

  • Is my information kept private?

Confidentiality is of utmost importance in a client-therapist relationship. The only cases where information will be shared is if there was to be harm to anyone involved, especially children under the age of 16, in which case the authorities would be notified, or if subpoenaed by court. Also, with the client's consent, information may be shared with their family physician/ medical doctor.

  • Where are you located?

  • What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

Both terms are often used interchangeably. Counselling tends to be more solution-focused and wellness oriented. It provides increased insight and learning how to effectively overcome problems and challenges that you are facing in your life. If you are experiencing challenges, crisis or a major transition that is affecting your mood and aspects of your life and you want to learn effective coping skills and gain insight into your thoughts and behaviors, than seek out a counsellor. Psychotherapy is often, but not always, treatment based in response to a diagnosable mental health issue and is much more in-depth in nature. It takes into account your history of experiences, patterns and behaviours and works towards healing and shifting them.
